Problem Statement. Depression represents 22% of the total disease burden in Latin America and the Caribbean (PAHO) in terms of morbidity, mortality and disability and has become a frequent diagnosis in primary health care services and has become A public health problem. Justification. Studies conducted in university students from careers other than medicine have shown that there is an association between mental rumination and the appearance of depression in them; The academic burden with the appearance of mental rumination generates traits of anxiety and subsequently depression. Reason why you want to advance this investigation. Overall objective. To determine the association between “RUMIA”, depression traits and anxiety traits in the students of human medicine of the university of applied and environmental sciences in the year 2018-2019. Methodology. Through a cross-sectional study of an analytical component, applied to an intentional non-probabilistic sample aimed at identifying the association of depression with mental rumination and anxiety that occurs in human medicine students belonging to the UDCA. Results. In this study, 3 variables were associated where it was shown that mental rumination and anxiety are significantly
Associated with depression, that the female sex is the most affected, the HADS showed that 49.75% of the participants presented psychological distress, 25.62% for anxiety and 8.37% for depression traits. The RRE scale showed that 52.2% presented ruminant responses and the APGAR showed to be a protective factor for the appearance of depression in 81.28%.Discussion. The findings found that could be submitted for comparison with other studies in general are similar to the described in the national and global literature with the exception of some discordant variables. Conclusions. There is an association between ruminant responses in medical undergraduate students and the appearance of depression. The anxiety traits showed that having them predispose to generate depression with more strength of association than the same mental rumination. Family functioning plays an important role as a protective factor in medical undergraduate students.
