Representaciones Sociales de la comunidad universitaria de la U.D.C.A frente a su sistema de gestión ambiental

Abstract

Este trabajo de investigación tiene como objetivo el determinar las representaciones sociales que la comunidad universitaria de la U.D.C.A tiene frente a su Sistema de Gestión Ambiental, acudiendo a la indagación de sus conocimientos sobre los componentes agua, residuos sólidos y biodiversidad, a la identificación de las prácticas ambientales que asume dentro del campus universitario y a los valores que le otorga a dichos componentes ambientales. Se aplicaron los métodos cuantitativo y cualitativo mediante el diseño de una encuesta on-line con 35 preguntas que fue contestada por 191 miembros de la comunidad universitaria y con la realización de 4 grupos focales en los que participaron 18 miembros de la misma comunidad. El estudio estableció que la comunidad universitaria tiene bajos conocimientos sobre los componentes ambientales, pero les otorga un alto valor por su importancia ecológica y por los servicios que prestan. La comunidad universitaria manifestó asumir buenas prácticas ambientales dentro del campus 222, no obstante, el campus presenta dificultades en la PTAR por la llegada de residuos sólidos inorgánicos y los puntos ecológicos reflejan una incorrecta separación en la fuente. El estudio determinó que las representaciones sociales que la comunidad universitaria tiene frente al sistema de gestión ambiental, a través de los componentes ambientales agua, residuos sólidos y biodiversidad, están asociadas al goce de los recursos como elementos disponibles, y a los cuales se les reconoce como importantes para la vida, sin embargo, no se evidencia una construcción clara de pensamiento ambiental que fomente acciones concretas para involucrarse más allá de las necesidades cotidianas. Se sugiere fortalecer los procesos de educación ambiental con toda la comunidad universitaria, así como reforzar la comunicación que se brinda en lo que respecta a los procesos ambientales que se adelantan, las problemáticas ambientales identificadas y los logros obtenidos.

This research work aims to determine the social representations that the university community of the U.D.C.A has over its Environmental Management System, inquiring their knowledge about the components of water, solid waste and biodiversity, the identification of the environmental practices that they assume within the campus and the value that is given to those environmental components. Quantitative and qualitative methods were applied through the design of an online survey with 35 questions that was answered by 191 members of the university community and with the realization of 4 focus groups in which 18 members of the same community participated. The study established that the university community has a low knowledge about environmental components but places a high value on them due to their ecological importance and the services they provide. The university community stated that they assume good environmental practices within the 222 campus, however, the campus presents difficulties in the WWTP due to the arrival of inorganic solid waste and additionally, the recycling bins reflect an incorrect source separation. The research determined that the social representations that the university community has over the environmental management system, through the environmental components of water, solid waste, and biodiversity, are associated with the enjoyment of resources as available elements, and which are recognized as important for life. However, there is no evidence of a clear construction of environmental thinking that encourages concrete actions to get involved beyond daily needs. It is suggested to strengthen the processes of environmental education with the entire university community, as well as to reinforce the communication that is provided about the environmental processes that are carried out, the environmental issues identified, and the achievements obtained.
