Infections caused by yeasts of the genus Candida have increased dramatically in recent decades. (De Bedout et al.; 2003) At the same time, changes have been observed in the epidemiology of Candida species, variations in their prevalence and resistance to antimycotics according to their geographic location. (De Bedout et al., 2010)
The present work sought to evaluate the antimycotic activity of the ethanolic extract from the eucalyptus leaves (Eucalyptus globulus) on Candida albicans ATCC® 60193 TM The ethanolic extract was obtained by means of the soxhlet technique and the essential oil by steam distillation. The antifungal activity of Eucalyptus globulus ethanolic extract at six concentrations (1, 0.7, 0.5, 0.3, 0.1 and 0.01 g / ml) was evaluated by agar diffusion method.
The in vitro MIC of the ethanolic extract from Eucalyptus globulus versus Candida albicans ATCC® 60193 TM was 0.1 g /ml.
