11spa
Floods are periodic events of the natural dynamics of hydrographic basins, they refer to the accumulation of water outside the channels and water reserve areas of the drainage networks produced by persistent rains that cause a progressive increase in the level of the waters contained within a channel, with the possibility of exceeding the height of the natural or artificial banks (Gonzales, J. 2014). They occur because runoff channels exceed the retention and infiltration capacity of the soil and / or transport capacity of the channels. Taking into account the above, the objective of this research is to forecast the flood areas for different return periods in the urban area of the municipality of Utica located in the department of Cundinamarca. For the forecasting of flood areas, the methodology is divided into three phases. In the first, the hydrological model is carried out in the HEC-HMS software of the quebrada Negra and río Negro basins; which drain in the periphery of the urban area of Útica, this phase contemplated the characterization of these and the municipality, as well as the identification of meteorological and hydrological stations. In the second phase, in order to guarantee the reliability of the result of the hydrological model, the model is calibrated and evaluated by means of the Nash-Sutcliffe index and in the third by means of a hydraulic model, the flood areas were specialized using the HEC-RAS and ArcGIS software. As result, a characterization of both physical and environmental sub-basins is obtained, as well as, a hydrological model composed of 30 sub-basins, 29 for the río Negro basin and one for quebrada Negra. Likewise, in the hydraulic model, the dynamic flood simulation is obtained, where for the return periods of 2, 25, 50, 100 and 500 years, there are flood areas of 17.4, 22.4, 23, 24 and 29.4 hectares respectively.eng
