Distribución vertical y daño de larvas de heliothis spp. En el algodonero.

Abstract

Se estudió la distribución vertical y el daño causado por larvas del complejo Heliothis spp. en algodonero bajo jaula y condiciones de campo. Tres larvas recién nacidas se colocaron en el terminal principal de cada una de 18 plantas. El 95% de las larvas del primer instar permaneció en el sitio de infestación artificial. Durante el segundo instar el 75% de las larvas se encontró en el terminal principal, el 25% se desplazó. Más del 70% de las larvas del tercer instar se desplazó hacia abajo del terminal principal, El porcentaje de larvas desplazadas se incrementó a 95% para el cuarto instar. En promedio durante su vida una larva ocasionó daños en 4.23 botones y 3.73 cápsulas por planta.

Vertical distribution and injuy caused by the larvae of the Heliothis complex were studied on cotton, planted in cages under natural conditions. Three neonate larvae were places on the mainstem terminal of each of eighteen cotton plants. Ninethyfive percent of the first instar larvae remained on the site of artificial infestation. A 75% of the second instar larvae were still found on the mainstem termináis, while the rest moved downwards. More than 70% of the third instar larvae movéd down on the mainstem terminal. During the fourth instar this percentage increased to 95%. During the total larval stage, an average of 4.23 flower buds and 3.73 bolls were injured per larva.
