Helicobacter pylori -bacteria of genus Helicobacter-is present in human gastric mucosa and plays an ethiological role in acid-peptic conditions, both benign and malignant, such as gastritis, gastric and duodenal peptic ulcers, gastric adenocarcinoma and non- Hodgkin lymphoma of lymphoid tissue presentin gastric mucosa (MALT).Since early diagnosis and treatment are relevant, interest have been placed on studying risk factors, contagiousness and prevalence, facts related to public health. New research has shown H. heilmanni, felis and rappini in pet’s gastric mucosa, with an eventual zoonotic component for a possible infection of human gastric mucosa.

La actividad física y el fitness están ligadas al desarrollo social, estas han sido abordadas por las diferentes ciencias aplicadas desde las cuales los diferentes autores han abordado y conceptualizado, estas actividades han evolucionado paralelamente a la ciencia y la tecnología, lo cual hace que sus conceptos se fortalezcan, se amplíen o se modifiquen de acuerdo a las tendencias que se presenten, y el campo desde el cual se aborden, el objetivo de este artículo es el de recopilar las definiciones y lo componentes que tradicionalmente se han involucrado en el desarrollo de la actividad física y el fitness.

Nursing emerged in the late nineteenth century as a key health service profession for patient care. Symbols such as the uniform, cap, coat and lamp generated an image that gave nurses credibility, respect and consideration in society. Over time, the sudden increase in the numbers of nurses and external social influences such as the mass media have distorted that social image. This has led to a loss of professional identity and underestimation of the role of nurses in health care work. Objectives: The study sought to explore the perceptions of nursing and the role of nurses within a group of nurses and physicians who represent different generations at the Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá. Methods: The study was qualitative and historical-hermeneutic. It used oral history and symbolic interaction as methods for data collection. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 3 nurses and 3 doctors from different generations at the Fundación Santa Fe de Bogota in 2012. Results and Discussion: The professionals interviewed agree that nursing requires a high degree of commitment and responsibility. They recognize that professionalism has been lost. There are many causes including low levels of undergraduate education, proliferation of university health care departments, low salaries, overloads of work, family duties, and loss of commitment and identity with the uniform and the profession. Finally, everyone agrees that nursing and nurses are key elements of the health care team. The image of nursing must be rescued by raising the level of professional quality not only in the field of health care, but also in academic and research fields.

Conforme avanza la edad los niveles de actividad física disminuyen, haciendo que la salud y el estado físico se deterioren, se incrementen los gastos en atenciones; el adulto mayor se convierte en una población vulnerable la cual requiere de programas especializados, que respondan a sus necesidades. En el presente estudio se evaluaron los niveles de actividad física a 109 adultos mayores habitantes de la localidad de suba (Bogotá Colombia), los cuales hacen parte del programa de actividad física de la localidad mencionada. A quienes se les aplico el cuestionario IPAQ y se determino los niveles de actividad física por género con categorización por edades.

Aspergillus oryzae NRRL 35191 from coffee, a non-toxigenic endophyte with the ability to synthesize kojic acid

Aspergillus oryzae NRRL 35191 was isolated as an endophyte from coffee leaves and found to produce kojic acid (KA) in culture. When inoculated into cacao seedlings (Theobroma cacao), A. oryzae grew endophytically and synthesized KA in planta. Cacao seedlings inoculated with A. oryzae produced higher levels of caffeine than non- inoculated ones. Aspergillus oryzae may be a useful endophyte to introduce to cacao since it grows non- pathogenically and induces the caffeine defense response that may make the plant more tolerant to insects and pathogens.

The Fauna Research Group of the Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas y Ambientales (U.D.C.A.) in Bogotá, Colombia, as part of its research on hystricomorph rodents, has initiated an assessment of the status of four porcupine species: Echinoprocta rufescens, Sphiggurus vestitus, Coendou sanctamartae (family Erethizontidae) and the spiny rat Santamartamys rufodorsalis (family Echimyidae), which are rare and only found in mountainous ecosystems of Colombia. According to surveys, porcupines are frequently observed in the area of San Juan de Rioseco. Locals recognized several species in the field guide: Coendou prehensilis, C. bicolor and C. quichua. Two locals also identified S. vestitus. Near Santa Cruz Zoo, in the region San Antonio del Tequendama, specimens of C. prehensilis, C. bicolor, C. melanurus, C. quichua und E. rufescens were confirmed.

This review article attempts to demystify topic of research in clinical nursing. It initially presents a vision about what science and research are which emphasizes the reasons both basic and clinical areas are fundamental to the field of health. Subsequently, the article analyzes the contributions that science and research have made to providing nursing with its identity. Similarly, it provides details about the steps and key elements for conducting research. Then it posits the importance of making clinical research visible and provides research strategies up until the publication of the research. Through all of this, the article shows that science and research are practical human practices which can be conducted as part of patient care and which result in developing scientific rigor in the practice of the profession.

Generalidades de la producción de embriones bovinos in vitro

In vitro embryo production (IEP) is a reproducti- ve biotechnology that impacts livestock systems favoring breeding and which have also been uti- lized as research models for embryo development in other species. For the development of this method, oocytes in vivo are collected through laparoscopy and ultrasound guided follicular aspiration, or through ovaries collected from slaughterhouses. The oocytes are subjected to maturation processes in vitro using various cul- ture media, addition of gonadotropins and growth factors. Spermatozoids undergo in vitro sperm ca- pacitacion process, where fertilization capacity is adquired and live spermatozoids are separa- ted from the seminal components and Cryopro- tectants. The oocyte–sperm co-culture for the in vitro fertilization is carried out in a media that promotes maximum sperm activity and zona pe- llucida penetration. For in vitro fertilization is ca- rried out in a medium favorable to sperm activity and pellucid zone penetration. Subsequently, the collected embryos are subjected to culture media that contain energy sources, amino acids and growth factors in order to maintain their sur- vival and development. Currently, IEP in cattle has become large-scale and is working on stan- dardization process for other species. Through PIV, biotechnologies such as cloning and trans- genesis have been developed. The aim of this review is to describe the PIV phases and their relation with the physiological events of fertiliza- tion and early embryo development.

Influence of three aphid species used as prey on some biological aspects of the predator Eriopis connexa

Up to now, the search for an efficient artificial diet to rear the predator Eriopis connexa, native to the Colombian highlands of Cundinamarca and Boyacá has been without success. There- fore, it is necessary to determine which of the available preys supply the best food for its de- velopment, survival and fertility. With this pur- pose, under controlled conditions, three aphid species, accessible within the natural habitat of the predator, were evaluated. The cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae) does not provide an adequate nutrition for the predator, and appar- ently, the glucosinolate content of this aphid is transferred and affecting the predator. Based on the demographic parameters such as net re- productive rate, finite reproduction rate, genera- tional time and intrinsic growth rate, for three consecutive generations, it was determined that none of the other two aphid species can be considered either as optimum prey. Macrosi- phum euphorbiae, as prey stands out over the alder aphid, Pterocallis sp., supplied as food. The influence that these three prey species had on the growth potential of the larval stages of the predator, under particular ambient condi- tions, is reported.

Todos los organismos presentan actividades biológicas repetitivas a lo largo del tiempo y con una periodicidad definida, lo cual implica que no son casuales, ni se presentan al azar. Es factible que estos ritmos sean el resultado de la necesidad del organismo de competir y adaptarse de manera efectiva al ambiente cambiante, para garantizar su supervivencia en cualquier entorno. La conducta y el comportamiento también deben seguir una secuencia rítmica necesaria para anticiparse y prepararse a los cambios ambientales y climáticos en el entorno cotidiano. Probablemente muchos procesos biológicos son sincronizados con los cambios ambientales por ejemplo actividad/reposo, sueño/vigilia, ayuno/alimentación y crecimiento/ reproducción (1,2). Estos ritmos biológicos presentes a lo largo de toda la vida del individuo, no han pasado desapercibidos a los seres humanos, dada su capacidad de observación. De muchas de estas ob-servaciones han quedado vestigios desde la antigüedad hasta nuestros días; una cita bíblica en el libro del Eclesiastés, por ejemplo, menciona: " Todo tiene su tiempo, y todo lo que se quiere debajo del cie-lo tiene su hora. Tiempo de nacer, y tiempo de morir " , lo que insinúa ya el concepto de ritmicidad en los ciclos vitales. LA DANZA DE LA VIDA Y SU RITMO El tema de los ritmos biológicos, el tema " El tiempo es la sustancia de que estoy hecho. El tiempo es un río que me arrebata, pero yo soy el río. " Nueva refutación del tiempo. Jorge Luis Borges del tiempo y su efecto en el hombre se han considerado un misterio y han fascinado a la humanidad a lo largo de su historia. A estos procesos biológicos temporales se han intentado dar múltiples explicacio-nes, incompletas por supuesto, desde los más diversos puntos de vista (3). Algunas descripciones del tiempo y su efecto en la esfera biológica, en la vida y en la muer-te, han sido recreados en la literatura como en el poema " El reloj de arena " del escritor argentino Jorge Luis Borges, quien escribe: " Todo lo arrastra y pierde este incansable / Hilo sutil de arena nu-merosa. / No he de salvarme yo, fortuita cosa / De tiempo, que es materia delez-nable. " Dada la relación estrecha entre ritmos biológicos y tiempo, podemos afirmar que los ritmos biológicos están siempre presentes en nuestras vidas y gobiernan nuestra formación, nuestro desarrollo y final-mente nuestra muerte; ellos nos recorren internamente, algunos de manera continua a lo largo del desarrollo y otros en forma recurrente y cíclica. Esto implica la existencia no solo de un ambiente in-terno, también indica que la vida está regida por un determinante temporal externo que gobierna las horas, los días y los calendarios. Bovine Leukemia Virus Gene Segment Detected in Human Breast Tissue

Background: Bovine Leukemia Virus (BLV) is known by infections in bovine cattle and produce, in 30% of infected animals, persistent lymphocytosis significantly impacts the beef industry. It has been proposed that this virus could be transmitted to humans and be present in cases of breast cancer. Aim: to determine the presence of 380 bp of gag gene segment of BLV in paraffin-embedded breast tissue. Study Design: Control-case study. Methodology: 106 tissue sam- ples were collected. 53 were cancer positive samples and 53 were negative samples for this pathology. After dewaxing tissues, DNA was extracted, amplified and sequenced. Phylogenetic analysis was done in order to verify BLV gene seg- ment, presence and origin. Results: 43 samples were positive (40.5%) for BLV segment. In the case group this segment was found in 35.8% of the samples and in the control group, BLV presented in 45.2% of the samples. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed BLV presence and had shown a high homology between amplified gene sequences obtained from human breast tissues and those coming from bovine cattle with leukosis reported by GenBank. Conclusion: The pres- ence of BLV genes in humans and its location in breast tissue can be confirmed, however, it should be clarified as a possible promoter of malignancy processes on this tissue.
