This work implements design-based quality (Quality by Design QbD) for the development of a veterinary cosmetic, taking as an orientation the bases of a QbD applied to a pharmaceutical product. By virtue of the foregoing, the same principles are raised in the development of a formulation proposal for a repellent shampoo and thus be able to demonstrate whether the implementation of QbD in a veterinary cosmetic product can generate better productivity and efficiency in cosmetic formulations. Mainly, a product that is already on the market with characteristics similar to ours is taken as a reference to determine the product profile, the product
quality profile and the critical quality attributes in our product, based on a survey carried out on a population with pets, bibliographic review and the experience in the veterinary market that the company has Laboratorios Servinsumos S.A. Subsequently, by means of a risk predictive matrix, the critical aspects of the starting materials and the process are evaluated. Finally, taking into account the data collected and the risk matrix, tests of the formulation proposals are carried out in order to establish the possible formulation of the shampoo, obtaining 3 proposals for formulations within which only No. 2 and No. 3 are chosen for a preliminary stability test at a temperature of 40 °C, It was evidenced that formulation proposal No. 3 is the most appropriate
and that the implementation of the QbD in this formulation contributed to the reduction of the
number of tests and an efficiency in the development process was evidenced.
