Biological aspects such as fecundity, sex pro- portion, mínimum and médium maturity size, hepatosomatic and gonadosomatic Índex and progress of condition fact and gonadic maturity stages of the ray Urotrygon venezuelae, collected at Playa Salguero, Santa Marta between February and October 2004, were evaluated. Slight pro- portion of males o ver the females (2:1) was found, as well as a high proportion of immature individuáis. Fecundity ranged between one and five embryos by female; the number of oocvtes ranged from six to nine, only visible in females in advanced maturity State. Mínimum and médium maturity size for females were 24.3 and 28.2cm and for males 25.6 and 26.8cm. No relation between maturity stage progression and condition factor was observed; for females signi- ficative correlation among total and liver weigh (r=0.9179 p<0.05), and total and ovaric weigh (r=0.7091 p<0.05) were evidenced, for males they weren't significativo (p>0,05). Hepatosomatic índex varied between 1.2 and 5.3%, larger for mature females. This was similar to the gonadosomatic índex, which varied between 0.1 and 1.5%. Absence of clear gonosomatic Índex peeks may reveal a continuous reproduction, at least during the studied period. Food spectrum was dominated by penaeids, most important in terms of frequeney of occurrence (52.9%), followed by shrimp remains, crabs, teleost, and an important fraction of non identifiable organic matter and detritus.
