Clnfortunately, mankind, due to lack of knowledge, need of income and power, has caused, not only in our country, but worldwide, an unbalanced ecosystem. Therefore the integration of professionals of different areas is necessary, to undertake research, to make the behavior of both birds and pathogenic agents more comprehensible, in order to contribute to the knowledge of preservaron of animáis in a critical State or risk of extinction. In this work, emphasis is made in a small area of parasitology, looking for responses to questions on the epidemiology, blood parasite specificity in birds of the order Passeriformes, maintained ¡n captivity under coid climate conditions. The research was carried out with species, which according to CITES (International Commerce of Endangered Wild Fauna and Flora Species), «also actually not necessarily in risk of extinction, could come into this situation, if its commerce its not strictly regúlate». Confíscate birds, located within the «Fauna Reception Center of DAMA» were employed. Puncture in the cubital wing vein and a thin smear, air dried and fixed with methanol was realized and colored with Giemsa tinction. Of the total of 50 birds of 16 different species, belonging to five families of Passeriformes, only 24% were found positive to blood parasites of the genera Aegyptianella, Haemoproteus and Plasmodium. The highest percentage was represented by Aegyptianella, with 63.6%, followed by Plasmodium, 27.3%, and Haemoproteus, 9.1%. Infections were extremely low, frequently represented by only two to three specimens per smear, which made identification difficult. Prevalence of blood parasites was low, compared with results obtained by researchers in South and Central America. Most of the confiscated birds had been captured only one or a few days, which could explain the few parasites observed in the smear.
