The loss of habitat ¡s the process by which a large and continuous habitat area is reduced and divided into two or more fragments, displaying interruption of continuity at any scale, disturbing ecology interactions, basic for the maintenance and functioning of ecosystems, with drastic consequences on the population dynamics of species and their vulnerability to extinction. Fragmentation can cause a process of diminution of diversity or loss of fauna and flora and the partial or total disappearance of communities. Anthropic activities have been pointed out as responsible of accelerating the process of loss or fragmentation, with the before mentioned consequences.
