Helicobacter pylori is a pathogen which colonizes the human stomach and is associated with multiple gastrointestinal diseases. Metabolism occurs within a biofilm which is a complex exopolysaccharide that allows the bacterium to survive in hostile environments and be resistant to the action of antibiotics, since it prevents complete penetration of these compounds. The present review was designed to perform an update on the importance of the biopolymer regarding the survival of the bacteria and show its public health significance.

Halophilic bacteria with potential for the recovery of salinated soils in Sáchica-Boyacá, Colombia. It is possible to use halophilic bacteria isolated from saline environments as a possible alternative for the rehabilitation ofsalinated soils for agricultural and agricultural production. Six halophilic bacteria were evaluated to determine their potential in the reduction of the electrical conductivity (Ce) of moderately saline soil in the municipality of Sáchica-Boyacá (Colombia). The bacteria were isolated on nutritive agar with different concentrations of NaCl, then inoculated in the soil (3 kg placed in pots) to perform a bioassay in the greenhouse for 2 months. Two phases were carried out, the first until obtaining a value of 2 ds/m (Ce) in order to plant tomato plants in the second phase. Weekly measurements of the (Ce) were made throughout the bioassay and only in phase 2 were determined weekly qualitative variables of tomato growth (height, number of leaves, foliar area, wilting and chlorosis). The results showed a direct effect of the halophilic bacteria in the decrease of the (Ce) of the soil, going from 5.2 to 0.8 ds/m (T1), 0.7 ds/m (T2), 0.8 ds/m (T3), 0.6 ds/m (T4), 0.7 ds/m (T5), 0.7 ds/m (T6), 3.0 ds/m (Control), values that correspond to very light salinity (< 2 ds/m). Regarding the agronomic variables, improvements were observed in the characteristics evaluated in comparison with the absolute control, especially in height and number of leaves of the plants. For the absolute control 80 % of the experimental units were lost, while in the soil with the different treatments only in some cases 20 % was lost. Accordingly, it is evident that the halophilic bacteria used in this research have potential for the rehabilitation of salinated soils.

Despite the protocols aimed at preventing infections associ-ated with urinary catheter in hospitals of III and IV level in Bo-gotá and Soacha, they represent an increase in time and cost of patients stay. A descriptive study was carried out number of cases, which the objective to determine the frequency and sensitivity of antibiotics against microorganisms associated with urinary tract infection in women aged 40 to 80 requiring urethral catheterization in intensive care of four hospitals in III and IV level of complexity. The clinical histories of patients who met the established requirements for inclusion in the period between January and December 2010 were assessed, taking into account the predetermined variables included in the corresponding instrument as were: hospital, age, length of permanence, duration of catheter, urine culture and result of the antibiogram. To tabulate and analyze the data Micro-soft Excel and SPSS statistical - 15 program were used, in or-der to subsequently recode variables and to generate sum up and dispersion measures, absolute frequencies, tables and graphs. Escherichia coli accounted for 39% of the total iso-lation in four hospitals, followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae(14.9), Proteusmirabilis (8.5), Klebsiella sp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (5.7). Ampicillin resistance was observed in 36.8%, Cefalexin (30.9%), tetracycline (29.4%) and nitrofu-rantoin (23.5%). Institution 1 reported the highest number of cases associated with urinary tract infection; as most vulner-able age range women 60-69 years old, were identified.

The development of a successful vaccine, which should elicit a combination of humoral and cellular responses to control or prevent infections, is the first step in protecting against infectious diseases. A vaccine may protect against bacterial, fungal, parasitic, or viral infections in animal models, but to be effective in humans there are some issues that should be considered, such as the adjuvant, the route of vaccination, and the antigen-carrier system. While almost all licensed vaccines are injected such that inoculation is by far the most commonly used method, injection has several potential disadvantages, including pain, cross contamination, needlestick injury, under- or overdosing, and increased cost. It is also problematic for patients from rural areas of developing countries, who must travel to a hospital for vaccine administration. Noninvasive immunizations, including oral, intranasal, and transcutaneous administration of vaccines, can reduce or eliminate pain, reduce the cost of vaccinations, and increase their safety. Several preclinical and clinical studies as well as experience with licensed vaccines have demonstrated that noninvasive vaccine immunization activates cellular and humoral immunity, which protect against pathogen infections. Here we review the development of noninvasive immunization with vaccines based on live attenuated virus, recombinant adenovirus, inactivated virus, viral subunits, virus-like particles, DNA, RNA, and antigen expression in rice in preclinical and clinical studies. We predict that noninvasive vaccine administration will be more widely applied in the clinic in the near future.

El desarrollo microbiano que surge desde antes de la evolución del ser humano, ha presentado importantes beneficios para nuestro desarrollo biológico, pero a la vez se presentan diversas problemáticas que hemos afrontado a lo largo del tiempo. Identificar las diferentes enfermedades bacterianas desde su primera manifestación clínica hasta la actualidad, dando a conocer los avances científicos e investigativos que llevaron a controlar dichas enfermedades, sin dejar atrás los cuidados utilizados en el transcurrir del tiempo por el ser humano. Por lo tanto, es necesario identificar cuáles fueron las mayores plagas asociadas a las infecciones bacterianas, describir su aparición, sintomatología, por qué marcaron la historia de la epidemiologia y estadística sanitaria a nivel mundial, y como se logran combatir o controlar a partir del el conocimiento e investigación del hombre. Lo cual llevo a generar aportes científicos como fue la creación de hospitales y antibióticos desarrollados desde el estudio microbiológico de las bacterias, finalizando con el cuidado de enfermería que se les brindo a las personas que contraían estas enfermedades. La metodología utilizada para sustentar lo anterior fue la revisión bibliográfica temática, utilizando recursos electrónicos como PUBMED, CLINICALKEY, SCIELO, y PROQUEST, usando los siguientes términos DECS: Ser humano, bacterias, plagas, enfermedades infecciosas, antibióticos, rol de enfermería, historia, microbiología, estructura, en segundo lugar se da organización a la búsqueda encontrada y por último se reafirman las ideas encontradas en los diferentes artículos científicos a partir del análisis y separación de capítulos basados en la información.
