«Lulo» (Solanum quitoense Lam) is a native fruit of the humid forest of the subtropical región of the Andes between 1200 and 2000 msnm. Due the profit of the crop the planting areas have been increased. The «cottony rotting» caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is considered the most important disease of the crop. In order to determine the incidence and the severity of this disease, in the región of the Tenza Valley, five commercial fields with extensions between 0.25 - 2.0 has. and different development stages were visited, evaluating randomly 5 sites/ha and 10 plants/site. All crops were affected by the «cottony rotting», reached plant mortality ranges between 64 and 100%. Other severe affections as «anthracnose» (Colletotríchum gloeosporioides), and «dormidera» (Fusarium oxysporum) and the fruit borer Neoleucinodes elegantalis were identified in the crops.
