The reduction of the thyroid gland hormones due to conditions other than the said gland known as extra thyroid diseases or treatment with a variety of drugs is called "euthyroid hypothyroid syndrome" or "sick euthyroid syndrome" and is in greater causal measurement of laboratory diagnostic errors (euthyroid patients with low T4). Currently, the remission and correct interpretation of thyroid function tests is the most discussed challenge for endocrinological diagnoses in the clinic of small animals. Taking into account that there are external and internal factors that affect the basal concentrations of thyroid hormones (age, race, environmental temperature, nutritional status and health) to a greater extent Total T4, and in turn there is a very wide range of normal values, depending on each laboratory, it is important to emphasize with the foregoing that the measurement of total T4 does not indicate the concentration of free hormone, which is the element of diagnostic importance. Therefore, the purpose of the work is to inform veterinarians and / or students more precisely and concisely the steps to follow when giving an accurate diagnosis of hypothyroidism in canine patients. The correct correlation of clinical signs and the correct choice of laboratory tests make them very useful for diagnosis, since there are very marked differences between hypothyroidism and euthyroidism; even more so when the measurement of cholesterol, T4L and TSH is taken as reference.
