Caregivers of people with mental disorders, such as psychiatrists, face the problems of their profession and abandonment by the state. It is considered that this specialty is highly stressful compared to others due to its emotionally demanding nature. Objective: to describe the mental burden of health professionals: psychiatrists from a hospital institution in Bogotá, for which a sociodemographic characterization and an analysis were made through the NASA-TLX method; in a sample of 23 psychiatrists. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study with an intentional sample taken in two (2) months. Data analysis with descriptive statistics, with the Excel Program and R Core Team 2016. The instruments were used: characterization and Hart's NASA-TLX to measure the mental load. Results: 52.17% of the sample corresponds to the female gender. 50% of the population is between 25-34 years old, 55% have a stable partner and 60% have no children. The weighted sum obtained shows a high overall load level, just as in the outpatient service and in the hospitalization service there is an average load. The activity that generates the greatest burden is consultation and the dimension is a mental requirement. Conclusions: The psychiatrists who work in the outpatient clinic have a greater burden in the activity of consultation, those who work in hospitalization, present a greater mental load in the hospital emergency care activity. The dimension of mental demand is the one that most psychiatrists score for priority activities
