Introduction: Quality of life according to the World Health Organization (WHO) is defined as "the perception that the individual has of its place in existence, in the cultural context and its values, related to its objectives, expectations, norms and restlessness ", where it is structured in front of physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects, including the perception of its existence, and coping with diseases. Thus, mental disorders, depending on different factors, can potentially enhance aspects that affect quality at the individual, family and social level, being a burden of care for him and his caregivers. For this investigation, it is decided to take Betty Ferrell's Quality of Life Instrument for People with Chronic Illness. Objective: To determine the perception of quality of life in patients of a psychiatric unit in an IPS of Bogotá. Methodology: Study with a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach that presents and determines the perception of quality of 134 patients with mental illness in a IPS in Bogotá. Results: It was found when analyzing the results of the 134 patients, that between 13 and 17% presented a low quality of life by standard deviation, but by interpretation of items according to the responses of the participants, the physical wellbeing present greater commitment in their quality of life. Conclusions: It is possible to interpret through the instrument of quality of life of Ferrell, between 51 and 75% of the participants indicated negative scores against their quality of life, so it indicates alteration in some patients.
