This work search to identify the biopsychosocial factors related to pharmacological adherence in chronic noncommunicable diseases in older adults. The most prevalent diseases in this population are chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemias, diseases in which affected patients receive education and medical accompaniment constantly to succeed.
However, multiple biopsychosocial factors have been identified that interfere with adequate adherence to treatments and have a direct negative effect on the quality of life of patients. In this study, 11 scales were applied, where it was found that of the 11 items evaluated, 4 showed a significant relationship with inadequate adherence, these are: cognitive diagnosis, impaired visual and auditory acuity, poor knowledge of the disease and a low socioeconomic level, which allows us to identify the population studied presents errors at each stage of the administration of medications and the maintenance of these pharmacological treatments. According to the literature reviewed and the findings of this protocol, it was concluded that education is the fundamental pillar when establishing and maintaining successful pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments and the role of the doctor, family and community in this process is highlighted.
