This research had as objective the establishment of factors which determine and rule the Colombian flowertrade toward the U.S., in order to confront the changes generated by new marked technologies. As working unit 30 small and medium producers and exporters of municipalities of Zipaquirá and Cajicá (Cundinamarca. Colombia) were taken. As information instruments and/or techniques, direct observations, semistructural inquiries, interviews of key informants and brain storms were used. It was established that 82% of the producers program the harvest to commercialize the flowers at specific dates; the majority does not want to diversify crops and export the flowers to the U.S. under the consignation system; producers disagree with these policies. They recognize the difficulty to penétrate new markets, feeling threaten by the effect multinationals generate in Colombia, considering further, being prepared to confront challenges caused by the economic opening of the country. As conclusion it stands out that the Colombian flower market has reached high international levels, but has to reinstate to attain comparative advantage at the global market. It is imperative to change the scheme of commercializing and distributing the product in the U.S: market in order to maintain and conquer new markets. The floricultural activity has to be managed in a more integrated manner, the private sector should have a feedback on the public one and the impresario on their part should favor each other and constitute a sophisticated platform which would turn the sector more flexible in order to make the large intermediation Chain more dynamic and shorter.
