BACKGROUND: Today, alcohol has become one of the most consumed psychoactive substances in the world, becoming a risk factor for death and early disability since this type of substance can lead to mental problems affecting the system central nervous, family, social and economic impacts to develop diseases such as alcoholic liver disease.
Deaths and diseases generated by alcoholic liver disease are one of the preventable causes of death in the world, which is known to be mainly cirrhosis, liver steatosis and alcoholic hepatitis. For which it was established according to reports found that more than 80% of chronic alcohol consumers develop steatosis and between 20% to 40% have other complications such as fibrosis, alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis.
METHOD: The present degree work presents a mixed (qualitative-quantitative) approach since categorical and numerical variables were included as numerical, textual, visual and symbolic data. The statistics used are descriptive, since it is used for the purpose of collecting, describing and summarizing a set of data obtained through the databases provided by DANE, which were compiled in trend graphs, allowing to draw characteristics of interest on mortality. By alcoholic liver disease from 2008 to 2017, to observe their behavior over time.
RESULTS: Based on the reports of deaths associated with alcoholic liver disease according to age, there is a considerable increase in mortality related to the excessive intake of alcoholic beverages, becoming a public health problem, since as the years go by it becomes evident growth despite the promotion of strategies to control these phenomena, such as the prohibition on the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors.
CONCLUSIONS: It is relevant to conclude the importance of the study of death due to alcoholic liver disease, since according to the literature consulted, it shows data specifying that the consumption of alcohol in the country is high, in addition to the mortality rates during the years 2008 to 2017 (according to DANE reports) are high. Regulators have proposed strategies to reduce the consumption of this substance, but there is no control that allows compliance with these strategies, therefore, it is intended to raise awareness and raise awareness of people with alcoholic liver disease that can develop for not controlling alcohol consumption.
