Various research has found variations in lipid profile associated with physical activity of different types (strength and/or aerobic resistance), however, it is unclear whether an aerobic exercise session causes changes in lipid profile.
Objective: Determine acute variations in lipid profile after an aerobic exercise session in young university students.
Method: 20 male subjects aged 18 to 25 are randomly selected, students of the professional university program in Sports Sciences of the UDCA, an aerobic exercise session was applied (continuous race in treading band, at 60 to 70% of the maximum aerobic speed), for 45 minutes. Blood samples are taken at the start and end of the session, which are immediately centrifuged, refrigerated and sent to laboratory analysis.
Results: Comparing the two blood intakes, no significant changes were found in HDL, from an average of 56.5 to 56.4 with P value: 0.71; LDL had a significant change P value: 0.01, varying its average from 99.7 to 96.5; the total cholesterol most showed an un significant change P value: 0.28, pretest 176.95, postest 178.9. Los triglycerides changed significantly means P value: 0.0009, starting with 102.85, and ending with 129.9; and the VLDL went from 20.57 in pretest, to 25.98 in the postest, with P value: 0.009 showing significant change
Conclusions: An aerobic exercise session significantly modifies the lipid profile in most of its components (acute effect).
