Dry seborreic syndrome of secondary origin in canines

The skin is an important organ for pets due to its functions (protection, immunity, absorption, excretion, etc.) as much as the surface it covers. The above coupled with a permanent replacement of macronutrients and micronutrients provided by the diet of the animal makes dermatopathies a vital interest to veterinarians. Among them we find dry seborrheic dermatitis, which is one of the most common skin-related diseases and yet one of the most undiagnosed in our scope of activity. It has been defined as a disorder characterized by nonspecific keratinization and may be classified as oily or dry and of primary or secondary origin. At present the treatment for this type of dermatological diseases focuses on topical medications such as specialized shampoos used in baths. However, it is important to know the symptoms and signs that the patient reflects and with a diagnostic help, be able to perform a treatment corresponding to the type of seborrhea. © 2017 Veterinary Organization.
